Out of this world technology news and updates
With WiFi really kicking off cities are wanting to ensure that they have city wide WiFi coverage. Some may create additional infrastructure, such as erecting poles, in order to do this but there is a simpler way.
Street lamp-posts are everywhere you go and are the ideal spot to house a WiFi access point. You get great coverage as it’s nice and high and each access point will be able to to easily communicate with one another. The StartSight project aims to combine a street light with a solar panel, wireless network, remote management and local access. An additional option to this is to allow the charging of small devices such as your mobile phone.
Other potential uses for this include a city wide warning / disaster system whereby you would be able to easily communicate critical information to residents.
